Toyota has revealed more details of its new Yaris Hybrid-R concept along with an image which shows the car in full for the first time.
Our first full teaser pic of the Yaris Hybrid-R left quite a lot to the imagination and we had to digitally enhance it in Photoshop (other graphics editing programs are available) to make any sense out of it whatsoever.
Now though, Toyota has given us a much better idea of what the concept will actually look like.
Based on the three-door Yaris supermini, the Hybrid-R concept has been created as a showcase for possible high-performance hybrid technology. Under the bonnet it gets a 1.6-litre GRE (that's Global Race Engine, to you and me), developed by Toyota Motorsport.
Basically, the drivetrain consists of a 1.6-litre petrol engine mated to two electric motors, which together provide a power output of more than 400bhp. The petrol engine turns the front wheels while the electric motors power the rears, making the concept all-wheel drive.
Much of the tech which underpins the Yaris Hybrid-R has been borrowed from Toyota's TS030 Le Mans racer. For example, the Hybrid-R features a super-capacitor which harvests energy lost during braking and feeds it back into the electric motors.
More details will be revealed when the Yaris Hybrid-R concept makes its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
