What with us being a consumer website, we don't normally bring you motorsport news here at BuyYourCar.

Okay, okay, we might have accidentally told you about the new McLaren, Lotus, Ferrari and Red Bull Formula One cars, but hey, everybody likes F1, right? Sports car racing, on the other hand, has a narrower appeal, and it's therefore something we don't tend to bother reporting most of the time. Until now, that is.

This is the Toyota GT86 GT4 Racer, a stripped-out, hard-core version of one of our favourite cars, and it's just about to begin testing ahead of its entry in the European GT4 Championship in May.

The GT86 GT4 is the work of Buckinghamshire-based engineering firm GPRM and features a tuned version of the 2.0-litre four-pot boxer engine fitted to the standard car. But whereas the road-spec GT86 produces just 197bhp, the GT4 should develop between 360 and 400bhp.

While the GT4 is not an official Toyota works effort, the Japanese firm has given GPRM it blessings and will provide technical support. GPRM has already taken one order for the new car and is allegedly in talks with another team in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

We'll let you know how the GT86 GT4 story unfolds over the coming months. Now, you'll have to excuse me while I spend the rest of the afternoon dribbling over these photos.
