Renaultsport has revealed details of its new 2014 Clio Cup racing car based on the road-going Renaultsport Clio 200.
Like the road car, which we told you about a couple of weeks ago, the Clio Cup racer gets a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine; however, the unit has been tuned by Oreca Magny-Cours to produce 220bhp and 199lb-ft of torque. Again, like the road car, the Clio Cup puts its power down through a six-speed sequential gearbox with optional flappy-paddle shifters.
The braking is taken care of by huge 32cm front discs with four-piston callipers, and the suspension features adjustable dampers from ZF-Sachs.
On the outside, the Clio Cup gets a massive rear wing, which is said to develop 40kg of downforce at 125mph, and 17-inch Speedline Corse racing alloy wheels.
Renaultsport has been testing the car since August and claims that it is around one second per lap faster than the existing 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated Clio Cup. The new model will make its debut at the beginning of the 2014 motor racing season.
The new Clio Cup will be available for delivery in the UK next September priced from €37,800 (around £30,000).
