Despite a phenomenal drive at the final race of the BTCC at Silverstone, Jason Plato’s championship hopes are over.

The Silverline Chevrolet driver climbed from 25th on the grid to finish 7th overall in the second of the day's races, but luck conspired against him and he finished third in the Drivers' Championship with Silverline Chevrolet taking second in the Teams' Championship.

Plato said: "We had some pretty bad luck but that's racing, and we always knew Silverstone would be difficult as it's impossible to overtake the turbocharged cars on fast circuits."

The BTCC returns on 1st April 2012 at Brands Hatch.
