Honda has revealed its new Civic Type R Concept at the Geneva Motor Show, previewing a new production Type R which will be launched next year.

Described by Honda as a “racing car for the road”, the new car is designed to signal a new era for the company. Honda claims that the new car is the “most extreme Type R yet.”

On the outside, the Type R has been given a huge rear spoiler to provide downforce, while the upper and lower front grilles have been enlarged to provide additional cooling for the engine. The wings have also been widened to accommodate the 20-inch wheels, with integrated air outlets to help optimise the air flow.

Honda has been tight-lipped on performance figures but we do know that the Type R will be fitted with a new 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine with “at least 280PS” (276bhp).

More information will be released when the Type R makes its debut in production form later this year.
