The new MINI Clubman concept has been unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, previewing a new six-door incarnation of the MINI estate which will go on sale before the end of the year.
Although still just a concept, the MINI Clubman concept provides a fairly accurate representation of the car which will hit dealer forecourts later this year. Unlike the current car, the new Clubman will be fitted with four passenger doors, rather than the current three, and is the longest car the company has ever made.
The two rear 'barn doors' have been retained, providing access to the boot. The boot itself will be larger than that of the current car as MINI is consciously aiming the new Clubman at the small family car market and hoping to steal sales away from the likes of the Ford Focus and the Volkswagen Golf.
The exterior styling is a more modern take on the previous Clubman's retro look, introducing horizontal headlights and a more sloping roofline than before. The MINI's traditional round headlights and chrome grille have, however, been retained. Inside, there's lashing of wood'n'leather as well as a central infotainment screen.
Engine-wise, the same choice of 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines available on the new Hatch will be offered, offering up to 55mpg and 75mpg respectively. A 2.0-litre petrol engine will also be offered in the Clubman Cooper S.
