Volvo celebrates its 90th birthday by showcasing a number of models representing its history at the world famous Techo Classica show.
The classic car extravaganza takes place in Essen, Germany, between 5-9 April, and Volvo will be taking along six historic models from the past nine decades.
The first Volvo car emerged from the Gothenburg factory gates on April 14 1927, and the company launched the PV600 series two years later. A 1934 Volvo PV654, a 3.0-litre straight six powered model with American-inspired styling, will be the oldest example on display in Essen. A 1957 Volvo PV444 will join it on the show stand representing the first Volvo model to be exported to the USA, alongside an 1800S – the iconic model which co-starred alongside Roger Moore in 60s TV classic ‘The Saint’. A 1968 example of the Volvo 145 estate, which became a huge seller for the company will be there, as will a Bertone-designed 262C of the type unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1977 to celebrate Volvo’s half-century. Completing Volvo’s classic line up will an 850R. The high-performance 850R was launched by Volvo in 1996, and instantly became thought of as a modern classic with its 250bhp five-cylinder petrol engine and 0-62mph time of just 7.5 seconds.
Volvo will also be looking to the future at the Techno Classica event, including on its stand the latest XC60 model.
