This is the Audi S1, a new high-performance version of Audi's supermini, which will go on sale in the UK next month following its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.

Under the bonnet, the S1 is fitted with a turbocharged four-cylinder TFSI petrol engine which generates 228bhp and 273lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox and a hydraulic multi-plate clutch all-wheel drive system.

0-62mph takes 5.8 seconds in the three-door model and 5.9 seconds in the S1 Sportback, with both models capable of achieving a limited top speed of 155mph. Combined fuel consumption and CO2 emissions stand at 40.4mpg and 162g/km for the three-door and 39.8mpg and 166g/km for the Sportback.

All Audi S1s come with an Electronic Stabilisation Control (ESC) system which utilises the electronic differential on the rear axle to brake the inside wheels during cornering to increase handling agility and stability.

The S1 also comes with an upgraded version of the standard A1's suspension, with a new four-link arrangement replacing the torsion beam rear suspension found on lesser A1 models. The damper settings are adjustable via Audi's adaptive dynamics system and the car's electromechanical power steering system has been tweaked.

17-inch alloys come as standard, with 18-inch wheels available as an option, and the S1 features a range of styling tweaks which mark it out from the rest of the range. Xenon headlights and new detailing on the front and rear bumpers, side sills and exhaust are all included and two new exterior paint colours are also on offer: Vegas yellow (pictured here) and Sepang blue.

Prices for the Audi S1 will start from £24,900 for the three-door and £25,530 for the five-door Sportback when the car goes on sale in the UK next month.
