The new, facelifted Volkswagen Polo goes on sale in the UK today, with prices starting from £11,100, having made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month.

The new Polo gets a range of exterior styling tweaks, new touchscreen infotainment and navigation systems and a new range of cleaner and more efficient engines.

All of the engines fitted to the new Polo are EU6-compliant, offering fuel efficiency improvements of up to 23 per cent over the older units. Petrol options include two 1.0-litre three-cylinder engines with 59bhp or 74bhp, two 1.2-litre four-cylinder units with 89bhp or 108bhp, and a 1.4-litre TSI petrol with cylinder deactivation, which produces 148bhp.

Diesel buyers will have a choice of two 1.4-litre three-cylinder engines, developing 74bhp or 89bhp. The lesser-powered of these units returns a combined 83.1mpg and emits just 88g/km of CO2.

Six trim levels will be on offer across the Polo range, with the entry-level S model coming with a 5.0-inch colour touchscreen, SD card reader, DAB radio and both USB and aux-in connections. Moving up the range, S A/C models, as their name would suggest, also get air conditioning.

SE models start from £12,435 and get 15-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured door handles, electrically-adjustable door mirrors, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, trip computer, remote locking, a 6.5-inch colour touchscreen, a CD player, and, on five-door models, electric rear windows.

Priced from £13,535, SE Design models also get 16-inch alloys, front fog lights, tinted taillights and rear windows and upgraded interior trim, while SEL models also get front and rear parking sensors and a central armrest as standard, starting from £16,120.

The range-topping BlueGT model costs from £17,710 and is available with the 1.4-litre petrol engine only, receiving 17-inch wheels, lowered suspension, side skirts and unique bumpers, a gloss black radiator grille and door mirrors caps, and alcantara seats.

The first customer deliveries are scheduled for July.
