Vauxhall has announced that it will unveil a facelifted version of its 170mph Insignia VXR SuperSport at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
Although you could be forgiven for mistaking the new car for its predecessor, Vauxhall has been hard at work tweaking the Insignia VXR SuperSport cosmetically. There's a revised grille, new headlights, new chrome 'sabre-tooth' detailing at the front and a redesigned rear valance with integrated tailpipes at the back.
Underneath, the changes are more marked. Vauxhall's engineers have been fettling with the SuperSport's chassis, with around 60 per cent of the car's rear suspension receiving revisions. In addition to this, there have been modifications to the ESP software for improved handling and less understeer, along with upgrades to the software for the car's active damping system.
On the inside, the SuperSport gets a new instrument panel and central console design, with an 8-inch touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth-operated internet connectivity and 3D navigation.
Mechanically, the Insignia VXR SuperSport remains unchanged. There's still the same 2.8-litre V6 engine developing 320bhp and the same six-speed manual transmission. 0-60mph takes just 5.9 seconds in the hatchback version of the SuperSport and 6.1 seconds in the Sports Tourer estate.
Order books for the new car are now open, with prices starting from £29,749 for the hatchback and £31,049 for the Sports Tourer.
