Vauxhall has unveiled its new range-topping Insignia, the Insignia VXR SuperSport.
The SuperSport replaces the old standard VXR and the top speed has increased from 155mph to 170mph. However, despite this, the new model is £3,760 cheaper than its predecessor, costing just £29,995.
According to Vauxhall, this makes the VXR SuperSport the fastest and most powerful car on sale in the UK for less than £30,000.
The key to this power is the car's 2.8-litre V6 engine which develops 320bhp thanks to a single twin-scroll turbocharger. 0-62mph takes just 5.6 seconds and Vauxhall has also given the SuperSport HiPerStrut front suspension to improve grip and handling.

The Lotus Carlton of 1990 could hit 176mph |
Visually, the new SuperSport is almost identical to the previous Insignia VXR; however, blue Brembo lettering on the brake callipers and an extra few increments on the speedometer differentiate it from its predecessor.
The VXR SuperSport has no direct rivals, being considerably cheaper than all fast Audis, Mercs and Beemers, not to mention faster. And since Ford does not currently sell a hot Mondeo, the Vauxhall has the marketplace to itself.
This isn't the first time Vauxhall has created a blisteringly-fast saloon car. In 1990, the firm released the fabled Lotus Carlton which, thanks to its 3.6-litre straight-six, could hit 176mph.
However, unlike the VXR SuperSport, the Lotus Carlton was anything but affordable. In 1990, it was priced at £48,000 which, when you consider that a contemporary BMW M3 would have set you back just £22,000, was a lot.
The Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport is available to order now.
