Toyota is aiming to provide British drivers with greater peace of mind by introducing a new Approved Used Car Warranty programme.

One of the key goals of this new programme is to improve the conditions for buyers purchasing older and high-mileage vehicles.

Those customers purchasing a 'Toyota Approved Used Car' with up to 150,000 recorded miles will enjoy a minimum 12 months' warranty. Toyota highlighted that it is not a third-party insurance product but a Toyota-backed warranty, and reminded customers that they can extend the warranty to a five year cover option.

On top of this, if the Toyota vehicle is less than five years old, Toyota will provide customers a warranty of up to four years. Similarly, if the car is between five and eight years old, customers will be able to add an extra 24 month warranty option.

Another new feature of this improved warranty is the possibility of spreading the cost of their cover across 48 months, yet this will always depend on the age and condition of every specific car.

"We believe our new extended warranty programme gives our customers what they really need, with similar protection and peace of mind that come with the five-year warranty on all our new vehicles," said Iain McCall, Manager of Vehicle Remarketing & Cost of Ownership at Toyota.

Benefits

Consumers enjoying the Toyota Approved Used Car Warranty will be able to have any part covered by the warranty fail and fixed at an official Toyota Service Centre. The only services which customers will need to pay for are the scheduled annual servicing and maintenance options.

Recently, the latest survey by the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) revealed that Toyota and Lexus provided the fairest warranty service for both dealers and customers in the winter period of 2011.
