BMW MINI have supplied a new motor to help Olympic hopeful Tom Daley with his driving lessons.
London 2012 Olympic hopeful and Team GB diving starlet Tom Daley has taken delivery of a brand new MINI One D Hatchback, the manufacturer has announced. The BMW 2012 Performance Team, of which 17-year-old Commonwealth Gold Medallist Daley is a member, is an initiative designed to provide Team GB and Paralympics GB members with support both on and off the field as they prepare for the long anticipated London 2012 Olympic Games.
Accepting the keys to his new MINI just days after turning seventeen, Tom will not only take his driving lessons in his new wheels, but also be enrolled onto the MINI Drivers at Goodwood programme, a circuit-based scheme devised by the manufacturer to help teach safety and good driving habits to young drivers.
"Like every other 17 year old I can't wait to get behind the wheel of my first car, but in my case having my driving licence will be a huge help in my training and preparation schedule for the Olympic Games," said a delighted Tom, "When I learn a new dive, it's all about practising until I get it right. I'll apply the same practice and determination to learning to drive."
As an Official Automotive Partner of the London Organising Committee for the 2012 Olympic Games, BMW MINI has committed to providing a range of efficient dynamic diesel cars, hybrids, and electric vehicles - as well as bicycles and motorcycles - with the target of an average sub-120g/km CO2 emissions. The transport provided will support athletes, officials, and media for the duration of the London games, and members of the BMW London 2012 Performance Team will benefit from vehicles provided to support them in their preparation for the Olympics. Local BMW and MINI have also been mobilised to support athletes in their local areas.
BMW and MINI have launched a webpage - www.bmw.co.uk - to keep up to date with the progress of BMW's London 2012 Performance Team.
