Volkswagen are celebrating high scores in safety testing for their new Golf Cabriolet and Jetta.
Both of the new models were tested under the latest round of the independent Euro NCAP international safety testing program.
The new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet attained an overall five star rating for adult, child, and pedestrian protection, which is the highest overall score available in the program. The Golf Cabriolet excelled in the occupant safety section, with a score of 96%. It received top marks in all seat positions, regardless of the driver or front passenger height, with tests conducted on various frontal and side impact scenarios. The Golf Cabriolet also achieved maximum safety ratings for child protection, with tests simulating child occupants of 18 months to 3 years of age. In the tests for pedestrian safety the Golf Cabriolet, with its inward deflecting bonnet panel, scored well in terms of head protection for children.
The Volkswagen Jetta was awarded the same five star overall rating as its stablemate, with 94% achieved for occupant safety, and top marks for child occupant safety. In pedestrian safety testing, the Jetta scored highly for its lower leg protection from the bumper.
With both the Golf Cabriolet and Jetta featuring a vehicle dynamic control system as standard, both received favourable ratings for "safety assist" with scores of 71% apiece.
