Subaru has announced that the new Forester will go on sale in the UK next summer.

The fourth-generation Forester, which will be unveiled at the LA motor show this week, is bigger, safer, more efficient and more practical than its predecessor, and thanks to Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, a low centre of gravity and a stiffer bodyshell, the new car promises improved handling and refinement.

Three 2.0-litre Boxer engines will be on offer at launch, including two 148bhp diesel and petrol units and a turbocharged direct injection engine with 276bhp.

Both naturally-aspirated engines will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, and Subaru's Lineartronic CVT auto 'box will also be available on both petrol models.

Full pricing and specification details of the new Forester will be announced in early 2013.
