The Subaru BRZ has been named 'Car of the Year' by Vehicle Dynamics International magazine.

The award was bestowed on the BRZ by a panel of vehicle dynamicists, engineers and journalists, who also recognised the role of Toshio Masuda, the BRZ's development leader. The BRZ shares its award with its sister car, the Toyota GT 86.

The editor of Vehicle Dynamical International, Graham Heeps, commented, "For some time now we've been beating the drum for simplicity. Cars that take a less-is-more approach and offer fun at legal speeds have been thin on the ground."

Subaru claims that the BRZ's success is down to its "light weight, low centre of gravity, front engine/rear-wheel-drive chassis balance, short wheelbase, and free-revving 2.0-litre Boxer engine."

The BRZ goes on sale in the UK this summer, with prices starting from £24,995.
