The Renault Scenic has taken home a second environmental award in just a month by winning the MPV category at the What Car? Green Awards.

With its 1.6-litre dCi Stop & Start engine the Renault Scenic beat off the competition thanks to the low emissions from its frugal engine. The state of the art diesel engine in this car combines the lowest emission achieved by any MPV, with more power than any other engine of the same size on the market right now. Value for money is ensured for drivers of a Renault Scenic by the combined fuel economy of 64.2mpg.

The award was accepted from Chas Hallet, the Editor in Chief of What Car? Magazine, by the Managing Director of Renault UK, Mr Thierry Sybord, at an awards ceremony yesterday. This ceremony came just a day before the start of a low carbon motoring festival, which is being held from 8-11 September at Battersea Power Station.

Commenting on the choice of the Renault Scenic as the top car in the MPV category Chas Hallet made it clear that it was not just the unrivalled efficiency which made this car stand out in the judges' minds, saying that:

"Renault thoroughly deserves this award because making a green MPV is not easy. However, the Grand Scénic seats seven adults in comfort, and emits only 115g/km of CO2, ensuring a low carbon footprint for driver and passengers. Our winning Scénic has plenty of equipment, including climate and cruise controls, automatic lights and wipers, an MP3 adapter, Bluetooth, stability control and six airbags."

While accepting the award on behalf of his company, Thierry Sybord commented that:

"For a long time, Renault has been investing in finding new ways of ensuring our cars are as easy on the environment as possible. It's more than three years since we introduced our Renault eco2 label to identify our most economical and ecological models, and the criteria for these on our cars has recently been made even more stringent."

He also talked about the upcoming release of the company's range of electric vans. The Kangoo Van Z.E. will be the first of these innovative vehicles, and is due to be released in just a few weeks.
