Yesterday one of the most eagerly anticipated cars of the year - the new Range Rover Evoque – rolled off the production line for the first time.

The first car is a white five-door example and will be donated by Land Rover for display at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon, Warwickshire.

Production is now in full flow with buyers taking delivery of their new cars from September. The Evoque will be built at Jaguar Land Rover’s Halewood plant in Merseyside, where 1500 new staff have been brought on board to produce the new car.

The Evoque is available in both three and five-door guise and offers a choice of two turbocharged engines - a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. Prices will start from £27,955 and nearly 75% of the new cars will be destined for foreign markets, providing a big boost for the UK economy.

Orders are currently being taken and the Evoque is already showing signs of becoming a runaway success as 18,000 orders have already been taken for the new SUV.

Colin Green, the MD of Land Rover UK said “The Range Rover Evoque will become our biggest-selling car ever, by a significant margin”.
