Production of the Peugeot iOn and Citroen C-Zero has been temporarily halted due to low demand.

PSA Peugeot-Citroen has recently slashed the list price of both models by £5,000, but it seems that a £21,216 price tag is not quite low enough to stimulate customer interest.

Both cars are essentially rebadged versions of Mitsubishi's i-MiEV.

Mitsubishi and PSA Peugeot-Citroen agreed upon a deal in 2010 which saw the Japanese manufacturer supplying 100,000 i-MiEVs to the French company. Unfortunately, Peugeot-Citroen only manages to sell around 100 cars per year in the UK, and overseas markets aren't exactly smitten with the iOn/C-Zero either.

There is very little doubt in our minds that the future of motoring is (at least partly) electric; however, it seems that the industry has a long way to go before electric cars can be pitched as viable alternatives to liquid-fuelled models.
