Japenese car aficionados have voted the Nissan Skyline the Most Iconic Japanese Car Ever.

The darling of the Playstation Generation, the Skyline came top of a poll conducted by the organisers of Japfest, Europe’s biggest Japanese car show. The Nissan Skyline first found fame in the UK after starring in PlayStation console game Gran Turismo, released in 1997.

The Skyline went on to become synonymous with Japanese performance tuning in the UK and beyond, and examples of the model are expected to descend on Japfest in numbers when the main event moves to Silverstone on April 24. The increasing popularity of Japfest has seen it move to the home of British motor sport after outgrowing its previous home. Two other events in the Japfest event calendar are Japfest Rock! which takes place at Rockingham Motor Speedway on June 26 and Japfest Motorsport Heroes on September 11 at Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, Kent.

Event Manager Katherine Chappell said: “The Nissan Skyline is one of the cars that really kicked off the Japanese tuning craze in the UK, so it’s no surprise to see that it’s been named as the most iconic Japanese performance car of all time. Japfest is a real celebration of the culture that it, in part, created, and we look forward to celebrating its success this year among the event’s festival atmosphere.”
