The new Vauxhall Mokka X, which joins the brand’s UK line up later this year, will be unveiled at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
Featuring fresh interior and exterior design, new powertrains, and OnStar and Apple CarPlay, the new model will be the first to carry the X designation which will identify Vauxhall’s future SUV and crossover family.
Since its 2012 launch, the Mokka has been a huge success for Vauxhall with over half-a-million European sales and with almost one-fifth of those coming in the UK market.
The new Mokka X incorporates Vauxhall’s latest design philosophy, with wing-shaped horizontal front grille, sharp double-wing LED daytime running light signature, and a decreased use of plastic fascia inserts to give the car a more solid feel. A sweeping ‘blade’ side line continues the powerful styling along the Mokka’s flanks, while at the rear are more double-wing signature light clusters.
A new dashboard inspired by the latest Astra is found inside, organised around more horizontally shaped elements and a centre-console designed around the latest touchscreen infotainment systems.
A new 1.4-litre Direct Injection Turbo petrol engine joins the 1.6-litre Whisper Diesel engine introduced last year. With the six-speed automatic gearbox, adaptive all-wheel drive, an electro-magnetic multi-plate clutch, and Start/Stop, the Mokka X is capable of 42.8mpg and CO2 emissions of 154g/km.
Meanwhile, LED Adaptive Forward Lighting headlamps adapt the headlights’ patterns automatically to the driving situation for the best possible light performance without dazzling other road users. The nine-setting system replaces the previous BiXenon AFL.
The new Mokka X will also be available with the OnStar personal connectivity and service assistant, which offers customers a broad range of features such as automatic airbag deployment alert, where an advisor will then contact the vehicle to determine whether help is required and notify the emergency services of the vehicle location if there is no response. OnStar operates round the clock, and also turns the Mokka X in a 4G LTE mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Two new versions of the IntelliLink infotainment system will debut in the Mokka X bringing the world of smartphones to the car via both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone projection.
