Mercedes has unveiled a stunning new sports car concept which gamers will be able to drive in the forthcoming Gran Turismo 6 PlayStation 3 racing game.
The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo was designed by Merc's in-house design team and was unveiled as a full-sized model at the opening of the company's new R&D centre in Sunnyvale, California.
According to Mercedes, the car draws inspiration from the legendary 300SL racing car of 1952, with a long bonnet and a cabin sited towards the rear of the wheelbase. On the inside, the cabin has been inspired by Merc's current Formula One car, with the dashboard consisting of the car's two gullwing doors positioned either side of the steering column. The major dials are incorporated into a floating glass console above the racing steering wheel.
Underneath the bonnet, the AMG Vision Gran Turismo gets a twin-turbocharged V8 engine of unknown size developing 577bhp and 590lb-ft of torque. Thanks to a low kerb weight of just 1,385kg, the concept has a power-to-weight ratio of 417bhp per tonne.
Gorden Wagener, Merc's vice president of design, said: "By virtue of its proportions and expressive appearance, the Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo embodies the brand's defining design philosophy of sensuous purity in a unique way.
"The design of this concept car reflects to extreme effect the perfect symbiosis between emotional, sensuous contours and intelligently presented high tech."
The Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo will also be unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show next week.
