The weight of expectation on the McLaren P1's carbon-fibre shoulders is immense.
As only the second hypercar in the company's history and the successor to the legendary F1 of the 1990s -- a car which, even twenty years on, is regarded as one of the all-time greats -- the P1 really does have it all to prove.
McLaren is therefore pretty intent on getting the P1 juuuust right and is going to the ends of the earth, quite literally, to make sure it's as good as it can be.
Back in April we told you that McLaren was putting the P1 through cold weather testing in the frozen arctic tundra of northern Sweden to ensure that it will work in sub-zero temperatures. After all, if Benny from ABBA decides he wants a P1 and finds upon delivery that the engine won't turn over the biting Swedish cold, he's understandably going to be a bit miffed.
By contrast, if Hank R. Williams Jr. III of Dallas, Texas, decides he wants to pour some of his oil money into a new hypercar, but finds that the P1 overheats every time he turns the key, he won't be best pleased either.
So, to ensure that the Texas oil barons of this world are happy with their new purchase, McLaren has been putting the P1 through a stringent hot weather testing programme in the searing heats of Arizona, Californa and Nevada, where the mercury can often hit 130 degrees Fahrenheit.
Thankfully, the McLaren team deigned to snap a few pictures while they were there and also shot a video, which you can watch by clicking on the image below.
