Bugatti is celebrating the sale of its 400th Veyron, more than eight years after the first example rolled out of the company's Molsheim factory.
Unfortunately, if you're in the market for a new Veyron you need to act fast as Bugatti has confirmed it will build just 50 more examples of the Veyron before laying the model to rest.
The 400th edition was a 'Wimille edition' Grand Sport Vitesse, one of Bugatti's six-part 'Legends' series of cars, each of which commemorates an individual who has had a lasting impact on the Bugatti brand. Each of these cars is limited to just three editions.
Since 2005, Bugatti has churned out 300 tin-top Veyrons and 100 roadsters. All of the remaining cars will be drop-tops so if you were looking to buy a new Veyron coupe, you're too late.
Here at CarSite.co.uk, we'll be sad to see the Veyron go. Not only did it rewrite the rulebooks when it was launched, becoming arguably the finest engineering achievement in the history of the motor car, but it remains to be seen whether VW will bother trying to outdo itself with a new replacement model.
If they don't, the Veyron could well become another Concorde -- an engineering feat never to be topped. And, we don't know about you, but we think that'd be rather sad.
