You have to admire Lamborghini. While most car manufacturers are content with launching their new models on a plinth at a motor show amid talk of 'core markets', 'design languages' and 'class-leading emissions', Lamborghini decided that its new Aventador Roadster deserved a more spectacular debut.

So, to usher the Aventador Roadster in in style, Lambo decided to send five examples of its £300k drop-top down the runway at Miami International Airport at 210mph.

Why? I hear you ask... Well, apparently the take-off speed of a standard commercial airliner is between 150mph and 180mph, the inference being that the Aventador Roadster is faster than a jet plane.

Unfortunately, while a Boeing 747 cruises at 555mph, the Aventador is out of puff at 217mph. But with a 0-60mph time of just 3.0 seconds, the Aventador would easily beat the jumbo in a quarter-mile drag race down the runway.

The Aventador Roadster goes on sale here in the UK in the summer, during Lamborghini's fiftieth year in business.
