A McLaren F1 has become the most expensive modern supercar ever sold, fetching more than £3.5million.
The car in question, a 1998 GTR model, is incredibly rare -- only 28 examples were made before the F1 reached the end of its production life.
The car was sold by car dealer Tom Hartley Jr. of the Tom Hartley supercar dealership in Derbyshire. Hartley would not comment on the exact price for which the F1 was sold but said it was 'in excess of £3.5million'.
The McLaren F1 held the record as the fastest production car in the world until 2005 when it was overtaken by the Bugatti Veyron. The F1 is fitted with a 6.1-litre BMW-built V12 engine which develops 927bhp, giving a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 243mph.
Today, the F1 is regarded as being one of the most desirable road cars ever built, with famous owners including Mr Bean himself: Rowan Atkinson, and the owner of the most impressive garage this side of Jupiter: Jay Leno.
Commenting on the car, Hartley said: "I think the McLaren F1 is the best car ever built
"It was light-years ahead of its rivals and the model that I have sold is undoubtedly one of the best of the road-going F1s ever built.
"It has an unblemished history, has never been crashed and has been maintained regardless of cost."
