Following on from the track-focussed Exige V6 Cup and the even more hardcore V6 Cup R, Lotus Motorsport has turned its attention to the Elise, creating the new track-only Elise S Cup R.
Based on the Elise S platform, the Cup R is powered by the same 217bhp mid-mounted 1.8-litre Toyota engine fitted to the standard car. Lotus has yet to release any performance figures but is claiming an improvement in performance over the standard Elise S thanks to a "motorsport-specific engine control module (ECM)."
Lotus has also added a new aerodynamic pack which includes a front splitter, barge boards, winglets, floor extensions, a rear diffuser and a rear wing. Despite the additions, Lotus claims that the car's kerb weight remains unchanged at 924kg.
In addition to this, new dampers and springs are also included, as are new Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 tyres.
As a result of the improvements, Lotus claims the Elise S Cup R is 4 seconds a lap faster around a 5km circuit than the standard Elise S.
The Lotus S Elise Cup R is eligible for entry to the production class in the 2014 Lotus Cup series, which is open to all Lotus owners of Elise, Exige, Evora, 340R and 2-Eleven models.
Prices start from £39,125 plus VAT.
