Although he's more likely to be seen in the Mercedes pit garage these days, the Formula One team with which most people associate Niki Lauda is, of course, Ferrari.
After all, it was with the Scuderia that Lauda won his first two World Championships, waged war with James Hunt during the '76 season and, of course, crashed badly at the Nurburgring -- a horrific accident which was captured this summer in the big-screen blockbuster 'Rush'.
It's fitting, therefore, that a Ferrari customer has chosen to commemorate Lauda's involvement with Ferrari by commissioning a new one-off special edition of the Ferrari 458 Italia which pays tribute to the three-time World Champion.
The car has been built as part of Ferrari's Tailor Made programme and has been specially designed to evoke the Ferrari 312T car driven by Lauda in the 1970s. The red paintjob is complemented by a white roof, gold wheels and a tricolore racing stripe, while on the inside, the black leather seats are stitched together with red thread.
Mechanically, the car is identical to the standard 458, with a 562bhp 4.5-litre V8, a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 202mph.
