Porsche has released an image of the latest pre-production version of its forthcoming 918 Spyder hypercar ahead of the production car's world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
In a tweet posted on Porsche's official Twitter page, the German manufacturer made the following comment:
However, Porsche later clarified this statement by claiming that the photo does not show the production version of the car, but the latest pre-production version, saying:
The Porsche 918 Spyder made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Motor Show earlier this year. It's expected to go on sale here in the UK next month with an asking price of €781,155 (£666,000). For €853,155 (£728,000), the 918 will also be offered with a Weissah performance package which adds more magnesium, titanium and ceramic parts, shaving 35kg off the car's kerb weight.
Powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine mated to two electric motors, the Porsche 918 Spyder will develop 875bhp and get from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 211mph. But despite the impressive performance figures, Porsche claims that the car will return 85mpg and emit just 79g/km of CO2.
