Jaguar has unveiled its new XFR-S Sportbrake which will go on sale for £82,495 when order books open in April following its debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show.
Under the bonnet, the XFR-S Sportbrake is fitted with the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 you get in the F-Type R Coupe, producing 542bhp and 502lb-ft of torque. This is enough to power the car from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 186mph.
As you'd expect from a ruddy big estate car with a bloomin' great supercharged V8 under the bonnet, the XFR-S Sportbrake isn't exactly the parsimonious model in the Jaguar range, managing just 22mpg on the combined cycle and emitting 297g/km of CO2.
But while the Sportbrake won't work wonders for the ice caps, it should be a blast to drive fast. The power is sent to the rear wheels (naturally) through the same Quickshift eight-speed auto-box you get in the F-Type, which automatically blips the throttle on the downshift. In fact, the gearbox is so clever it knows when you're going round a corner and automatically selects the right gear for the exit.
Jaguar has also tweaked the suspension, firmed up the springs and fiddled with the active dampers, active electronic rear differential and stability control to, as Jaguar claims, "allow the enthusiastic driver to make the most of the car's huge potential."
Like its siblings, the XFR-S saloon and the XKR-S, the Sportbrake has been suitably modified on the outside to hint at the power underneath. There's a new bumper, front splitter, bigger side sills, a bigger rear bumper and huge 20-inch alloy wheels. And while it's not quite the size of the rear wing attached to the saloon, the Sportbrake does get a roof-mounted rear spoiler.
We'll bring you more news about the XFR-S Sportbrake straight from Geneva next week.
