Jeep has unveiled its new baby SUV, the Renegade, at the Geneva Motor Show ahead of its launch later this year.
The Renegade is Jeep’s first entry into the mini-SUV market and has been developed alongside Fiat’s own small SUV offering, the 500X. Jeep is hoping the new car will be good enough to rival the likes of the Peugeot 2008 and the Renault Captur.
Jeep has announced sixteen powertrain combinations for the new Renegade which will be available across global markets. There is no word yet on which engines will be making it to the UK; however, we’d expect to see a 1.4-litre petrol, a 1.6 diesel and a 2.0-litre diesel, with power figures ranging from 118bhp to 138bhp. A choice of six-speed manual and dual-clutch gearboxes will also be on offer.
Both two- and four-wheel drive versions will be on offer, with both available with Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system which offers the choice of five modes: Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand and Mud. Four trim levels will also be on offer: Sport, Latitude, Limited and Trailhawk.
On the outside, the Renegade features styling cues taken from Jeep’s venerable Wrangler off-roader, with a boxy profile and angular bodywork. Inside, the cabin has a rugged feel but is equipped with a range of tech, including a touchscreen infotainment system, DAB radio and USB and aux-in ports.
There’s no word yet on pricing but we’d expect the Renegade to start from around the £15k mark when it goes on sale later this year.
