Hyundai has become the first Asian car manufacturer to be awarded the top 'Golden Award' at the EuroCarBody conference.
This year's EuroCarBody conference was held near Frankfurt in Germany. The awards ceremony hosted by the Automotive Circle International, an organization made up of automotive suppliers and manufacturers, saw 500 delegates including experts from across the globe voting in the 'Golden Award', which is considered to be the highest accolade in the industry.
Judges complimented the i40's effective development materials, comprehensive engineering, and production efficiency, awarding the car 37.98 points out of a possible 50. The use of high-strength steel and improved joints in the structure of the i40 means that its lightweight body still provides high energy absorption efficiency in the event of a collision, a fact which was singled out for praise by the judges.
The i40 is currently available as an estate, and from next year will also be available as a saloon. This latest recognition comes after the i40 was recently rated in the lowest insurance group for a D-segment car in the UK.
Second place in the EuroCarBody Golden Award went to the Audi A6, which scored 35.86, with the Mercedes B-Class coming in third place with a score of 34.66.
