In the Scottish Car of the Year awards this year, the Hyundai i40 Tourer was named the ‘Best Estate Car’ of 2011.
The i40 Tourer is a new entry into the medium family estate car segment, having been launched this September, and it is already winning fans with a panel of expert judges from the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers (ASMW) placing it ahead of strong competition from cars like the BMW 5 Series Touring, Focus Estate, Peugeot 508SW and Astra Sport Tourer to take the title of Best Estate Car 2011.
The President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, John Murdoch, explained the decision to give this year's award to the Hyundai i40, saying:
"There are three things an estate car must be - practical, practical and practical. So, our winner has the space and versatility to seal the deal for practicality, but this estate has a whole lot more to offer. Not least, its elegant looks and stylish interior, but we're also big fans of the way it drives, its economical engines and very competitive prices. Oh, and did we mention it's also one of the most practical estates you can buy?!"
The Managing Director of Hyundai UK, Tony Whitehorn, accepted the award saying:
"We are absolutely delighted that the i40 Tourer has won the award for 'Best Estate Car' of the Year. This is our first award for a vehicle which represents yet another remarkable step change for Hyundai - offering elegant design, practicality, economy and exceptional value for money.
"Our customers and dealers in Scotland are extremely important to us and I would like to thank the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers for this prestigious accolade."
