Images of a new Ford Ka concept have appeared online, hinting at the third-generation model of Ford's city car.
Details of the new car are scarce; however, it is believed that the new Ka will reach production within the next two years, dispelling rumours that the Blue Oval were considering not replacing the Ka following disappointing sales of the Mk2 model.
The big news is that the concept is a five-door, which if carried over to the production model will mean that the new car will be the first Ka to be offered in something other than three-door hatch guise. Another notable feature is the inclusion of Ford's new Aston Martin-style hexagonal grille.
The current Ford Ka, which is based on the Fiat 500 platform, has arguably failed to recapture the magic of the genuinely revolutionary Mk1 model which came out back in 1996. Under increasing pressure from more budget-oriented brands such as Hyundai, Kia and Dacia, Ford will be hoping that the new model can win back a significant slice of the city car market.
