Independent car safety organisation Euro NCAP has awarded the Ford Focus the accolade of Europe’s ‘Best in Class’ small family car.

The safety organisation has awarded the Ford Focus a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

The vehicle gained the maximum five-star rating as well as achieving four Euro NCAP Advanced rewards last year. No other high-volume car has attained ratings like Ford.

Euro NCAP is Europe’s leading authority on car safety and they awarded the Ford Focus top ratings based on its vehicle crash test rating and advanced safety technology.

“This award has special meaning because designing and building the safest vehicles possible is a core value at Ford,” said Stephen Odell, chairman and CEO of Ford Europe.

“The Focus exemplifies our approach to design cars that both help drivers avoid accidents and protect them when one is inevitable.”

The new Ford Ranger as the safest pickup vehicle they have ever tested.

The special mention for the new Ford Ranger came about as it scored highly in all areas of assessment and the Ranger was specifically praised for pedestrian protection. The Ford Ranger is the only pick up to ever have gained a five-star Euro NCAP rating.

The adult occupant score of the Focus was 92 percent, the child occupant rating at 82 percent, a pedestrian score of 72 percent and 71 percent for safety assist ratings.

The Euro NCAP Advanced rewards were based on the focus technologies, which include Driver Alert to prevent driver fatigue, Forward Alert to detect any possible collision, Active City Stop to avoid accidents at low speeds and Lane Keeping Aid technologies to warn and assist drivers who may stray from their lane.

Ford are pioneering many new technologies in driver safety. They recently announced the launch of a new ultra-efficient 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that is to be sold across the Ford Focus range.

The new turbocharged, direct injection engine delivers the same performance as a traditional 1.6-litre engine, but with significantly improved fuel efficiency and ultra-low CO2 emissions.
