It's won plaudits for its power, its fuel efficiency and its lightweight design; it's even been named International Engine of the Year two years on the trot.
Ford EcoBoost named International Engine of the Year
But now Ford's EcoBoost engine is celebrating another milestone as the two-millionth example has been produced since the engine's global launch back in 2009.
Ford is now churning out the engine at a rate of 100,000 examples per month, up from 65,000 last year, and that number is set to increase with the engine going into production at the Changan Ford engine plant in Chongqing, China.
Not only is this good news for Ford but it's also another success story for British manufacturing. The 1.5-litre version of the EcoBoost which will find use in the next Mondeo is currently produced at Ford's Bridgend facility in Wales, which employs nearly 2,300 people.
"Ford EcoBoost delivers great performance with lower fuel bills, a recipe that is proving popular with consumers around the world," said Ford vice president of powertrain engineering, Joe Bakaj.
"EcoBoost engines are attracting new customers to the Ford brand every day, and our plants are working hard to keep up with demand."
