Fiat has revealed its brand new Panda Cross, a rugged, utilitarian version of the Panda 4x4, ahead of the car's debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show.
The main visual changes between the Panda 4x4 and the Panda Cross are new light clusters, fog lights and a redesigned front bumper which is designed to give the car a more purposeful look. At the back there's a new rear bumper while at the sides there are extended wheel arches under which you'll find special 15-inch alloy wheels. A chrome-tipped exhaust and roof bars are also included.
Inside, there seats are trimmed in a unique new fabric and leather combination, while standard equipment includes automatic climate control, a leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob, Blue&Me connectivity and electric door mirrors.
The Panda Cross also comes with the same Torque-on-Demand system you get in the Panda 4x4, which uses a viscous coupling to distribute torque between the front and rear axles, depending on the amount of traction available.
Fiat's Terrain Control system is also included as standard, allowing the driver to switch between three driving modes: auto, lock (optimised for off-road use) and hill descent. Fiat has also improved ground clearance and both the approach and departure angles of the car to aid its off-road ability.
Two engines will be available from launch: a 0.9-litre TwinAir unit with 89bhp and 107lb-ft of torque and a 1.3-litre diesel with 79bhp and 140lb-ft of torque. Both will return more than 57mpg, while the TwinAir will emit just 114g/km of CO2.
The Fiat Panda Cross will go on sale later this year and although Fiat has yet to release any official pricing details, we're expecting the car to carry a small premium over the standard 4x4 model.
