Classic vehicle insurance specialists Hagerty have confirmed their popular Festival of the Unexceptional will return to Buckinghamshire’s Stowe House on Saturday 14th July.
For the fifth year in succession the light-hearted festival will feature a Concours d’Ordinaire to celebrate the workaday but now sparse motoring names from our past such as the Marina, Metro, Chevette, Hunter, and Allegro.
The free-to-attend event is open to classic cars and light commercials built between 1966 and 1990, with the emphasis on ordinariness. Owners can register at www.unexceptionalcars.co.uk, and the same website can be used to access free public admission tickets.
Favourites for the 2018 Concours d’Ordinaire crown include a rare Volkswagen 412, a base three-door Golf Mark I, a Volvo 66 DL, Citroen GS X1 and Fiat Strada. Past winners of the much-prized have included an immaculate and rare Nissan Cherry Europe, a Morris Marina pick-up, a Hillman Avenger Super Estate, and an as as-new 1983 Datsun Sunny 1.5 SGL, and these previous victors will be displayed in a special area at Stowe House.
The event will also see the return of Hagerty’s Feast of the Unexceptional, the period picnic accompaniment of the mundane automotive display where participants are encouraged to bring out the Battenberg cake, Curly Wurly bars, cheese and pineapple on sticks, and Babycham.
Angus Forsyth, Hagerty’s Managing Director said: “We are delighted to be hosting the Festival of the Unexceptional for the fifth year running! The grounds at Stowe House are spectacular and add to the enjoyment of this terrific and unique motoring event. In the past years, we have met the most marvelous people with exceptional ‘unexceptional’ vehicles, bettered only by the stories that lie in the background of the history of the cars. The Festival is a great opportunity to celebrate these unusual classics and to recognise their lasting impact.”
