A superstar car will be bringing some welcome sunshine to the London Classic Car Show – comedy legend Eric Morecambe’s old Jensen Interceptor.
The 1968 example has been fully restored by Jensen specialists Cropredy Bridge and will be sold on a POA basis by Silverstone Auctions at the four-day event which opens at Excel London tomorrow.
The car left Jensen’s West Bromwich factory on 23rd September 1968 for delivery to Mr Morecambe’s Harpenden home, where it became the comic icons favourite car according to his former chauffeur Mike Fountain. Eric Morecambe was driving the car through Batley near Leeds late one evening when he suffered a heart attack and had to engage the help of a passer-by to drive him to hospital, and anecdote he famously told on a 1972 episode of Parkinson.
Nick Whale of Silverstone Auctions said: ”This is a wonderful car with an equally wonderful history and has been a personal delight to see it restored to its former glory. It’s now time for the Jensen to find a new owner who will cherish it as much as Eric did.”
Silverstone Auctions’ team will be on hand to answer questions from show-goers, who will also be able to view two cars that will be auctioned in Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car sale, including a incredibly low mileage 1990 Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II and a one-owner, 1,500 mile 2010 Porsche 997 GT3 RS GEN II.
