With a 3.0-litre V8 engine producing just 250bhp, the Ferrari Dino 308 GT4 was never exactly the most exciting car to come out of Maranello.
This is reflected in the fact that today you can pick up a good one for around £25,000 -- a bargain when you compare it to a similarly-priced boggo-spec 3 Series.
So why, I hear you ask, has the beaten and bruised example you see above just changed hands for the princely sum of $250,000 (£156,000). Well, the answer can be summed in one three-letter word: art.
The 'sculpture' you see above is the work of a French sculptor by the name of Bertrand Lavier, who is part of the 'ready-made' movement, a group of artists who prize everyday objects as art. Lavier, brilliantly, managed to find a buyer who was willing to pay him a quarter-of-a-million US dollars for a car which in mint condition would cost five times less. Artists, eh?
So, here's a CarSite top tip. If you have a knackered old banger sitting doing nothing on your drive, simply smash it to bits with a sledgehammer and sell it to a gullible middle-eastern businessman for five times what it's worth.
