The DVLA has issued a list of registration plates which will be banned when the new 14 plates come out next March for spelling out "offensive" words.
Staff at the DVLA have worked out which new combinations should be banned on the grounds of poor taste, with many plates beginning with the area identifiers PR, SH and SL being banned.
Although the DVLA regularly bans certain registration plates for their potential offensiveness (the brilliant P155 OFF of 1997 instantly springs to mind) the new 14-plate is thought to be particularly useful for personalise number plate fans as the number 14 can be read as the letters I and A.
Plates which will not be appearing on cars from March 2014 include PR14 CCK, SH14TTY, SP14 STK, SL14 AGS, CR14 PLE, BU14 SHT and SK14 NKY.
It isn't just Carry On-style smut the DVLA have banned either; AL14 LAH has been removed, as has any plate ending with J14 HAD, which has been banned over a fear of glorifying terrorism.
A DVLA spokesman said: "The vast majority of registration numbers are made available but we have a responsibility to ensure that the combinations used do not cause offence.
"We try to identify combinations that may cause offence and having considered the appropriateness of these registration numbers we have withdrawn them as they could cause offence or embarrassment on the grounds of political or racial sensitivities or are in poor taste."
