BMW is planning to sell many of the cars used as part of the Olympic fleet.

BMW has yet to officially confirm what it will do with the Olympic cars, but it seems likely that they will make it onto dealer forecourts advertised as 'ex-demo' models. However, such is the number of cars used during the games that it is unlikely that all will find homes this way.

The company often auctions off its ex-fleet cars at closed sale events organised by British Car Auctions, and it seems likely that a significant number of the Olympic Beemers will be sold to private buyers.

Some of the fleet will remain in service for the forthcoming Paralympic Games.

BMW has dismissed fears that the influx of nearly new cars onto the market will affect the residual values of privately owned cars.

The Olympic Fleet comprised of:
  • 1,550 320d EfficientDynamics
  • 700 520d EfficientDynamics
  • 400 318d Tourings
  • 160 1 Series ActiveE electric vehicles
  • 20 5 Seres ActiveHybrids
  • 17 X3 xDrive 20ds
  • 10 X5 xDrive 30ds
