The first official images of the BMW 4-Series Coupe concept have been revealed after pictures of the car were leaked online.

The 4-Series Coupe concept is the replacement for the current 3-Series Coupe.

Despite the name-change, it is expected that the 3- and 4-Series will remain closely linked, just as the 5- and the 6-Series are. By renaming the 3-Series Coupe as a 4-Series, BMW is hoping to establish a more upmarket image for its small coupe, much like Audi has done with the A5.

The new 4-Series will be slightly larger than the outgoing 3-Series Coupe. The wheelbase will be 50mm longer than the old car, while the track has been widened by 45mm at the front and 80mm at the back. These figures suggest that the new car will be significantly more spacious and luxurious than its predecessor.

The 4-Series is set to go on sale later this year, with an expected starting price of £28,000.
