Audi has released details of its new RS5 Cabriolet in a live online video, ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

The drop-top RS5 gets the same 444bhp 4.2-litre V8 as its tin-top brother and will get from 0-62mph in 4.9 seconds -- 0.4 seconds slower than the coupe. The top speed is limited to 155mph but Audi offers buyers the option of derestricting the car, allowing it to reach its true top speed of 174mph. The power from that monstrous V8 is channelled to all four wheels via a seven-speed double-clutch gearbox and Audi's legendary Quattro system.

The RS5's electrically-operated fabric roof opens in 15 seconds and closes in 17 seconds, and can be raised and lowered at speeds of up to 31mph.

The RS5 sits 20mm closer to the ground than the standard A5 Cabriolet, and can be distinguished from the rest of the range by its xenon and LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, carbon fibre rear spoiler and flared wheel arches. Carbon-ceramic brakes with huge eight-piston callipers are also included as standard.

The RS5 Cabrio will reach the UK early next year and, although Audi has yet to announce UK prices, expect it to start from around £70k.
