Audi has revealed its new five-door A3 Sportback ahead of its debut at next week's Paris Motor Show.
The new A3 Sportback is a full 35mm longer than the three-door, and 58mm longer than its predecessor. Not only does this result in improved rear legroom, it also means that the boot has grown by 10-litres, offering 380-litres with the rear seats up and 1220-litres with the seats folded down.
Styling-wise, there really is very little difference between the five-door A3 and its three-door brother; however, the Sportback does get a set of roof rails and a slightly-tweaked rear end.
The Sportback will be available with the same engines as the three-door, with two petrol units (a 1.4 and a 1.8) and a diesel on offer. The 2.0-litre diesel engine will propel the Sportback from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds and return more than 60mpg on the combined cycle.
The new A3 Sportback is built on the same lightweight MQB platform as the new Volkswagen Golf and weighs 90kg less than its predecessor (and only 30kg more than the three-door).
The Sportback costs £620 more than the three-door, with prices starting from £19,825 for the basic 1.4-litre model, rising to £27,180 for the top-of-the-range 1.8 S line.
The A3 Sportback will arrive in UK dealerships in early 2013.
