Audi’s compact A1 car has now added another award to its list of achievements, winning the ‘Best Small Hatchback’ title at Parkers’ New Car Awards.

The annual award ceremony run by car buying website Parker's judges cars in each category according to the value for money that they represent, based on issues such as the cost price for both new and used cars, and running costs such as servicing and fuel consumption.

Parkers Editor Kieren Puffett explained their decision, saying "The Audi A1 1.6 TDI SE brings big premium brand values at a price many car buyers can afford. The A1 is extremely well made and is a car that exudes classy sophistication."

One of the main reasons for the A1's ability to deliver such good value for money is its efficient engines. The most efficient is the 1.6 TDI, which delivers 70mpg and has low CO2 emissions, translating into VED of £20 a year. With a low insurance group and competitively priced servicing plans, the A1 is a very cost-effective solution. The list prices for a new A1 start from £13,430 OTR for a 1.2 TFSI model and go up to £20,705 OTR for a 1.4 TFSI which delivers 188bhp.

The Director of Audi UK - Jeremy Hicks - noted that this is already the fourth award that the A1 has won in 2011, and said that the company is very proud of the small car's success. He commented that this latest honour "highlights the fact that it's an attractive ownership proposition on every level."
