Aston Martin has spent the week at Brands Hatch, testing its new V12 Vantage GT3.
Factory driver Darren Turner has covered 600 miles in the new car and said: "The car ran like clockwork throughout and we've managed really good mileage already. The feeling of the V12 Vantage GT3 is a massive step forward from the DBRS9. Being based on the smaller Vantage it is more responsive and feels more nimble, giving the driver plenty of confidence to extract all the performance from the V12 engine while also being light on its tyres"
However, work on the GT3 is by no means finished. Aston is to begin testing the car at competition speeds to ascertain whether any of the car's mechanical components need upgrading before the competition begins.
The GT3 used a refined version of 6.0-litre V12 seen in the DBRS9 tuned to develop over 600bhp and 500lb-ft of torque. A dry sump, lightened crankshaft and carbon-fibre propshaft have been added to make the GT3 as competitive as possible.
Aston will continue to develop the GT3 into 2012.
