The Fiat Tipo name may only be recent reintroduction to the UK car market, but this week marks 30 years since the launch of the original model.
First unveiled at the end of January 1988, the original Fiat Tipo replaced the Strada in the marque’s UK line up. Developed by an international team of over 2,000 engineering experts, the Tipo’s ergonomic design bought impressive interior space and a state-of-the-art – for the 1980’s at least – digital instrument panel.
Fiat claim the current Tipo model, which went on UK sale last year priced from £13,795 on-the-road, follows the same philosophy as its ancestor, including class-leading interior space and a voluminous 440-litre boot. Available in both 5-door hatch and estate variants, the current Tipo also boasts includes 60/40 split folding rear seats, cruise control, and automatic emergency brake all as standard. The entry-level Tipo Easy 5-door hatchback is powered by a 1.4-litre 16-valve 95bhp petrol engine. Full information the current Tipo range is available at Fiat retailers.
