CONS: Harsh ride, expensive
The Zafira Tourer Exclusiv 2.0 CDTi 16v develops 163 bhp at and 258 lb-ft of torque. 0-60mph takes a very reasonable 9.3 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 127mph. These are perfectly adequate performance credentials for a large people carrier such as this. The Zafira is also pretty good to drive with a linear response from the steering and very little body roll through the corners. However, it has to be said that Ford's S-MAX is still the better car to drive thanks to its superb chassis.
The Zafira Tourer rides well thanks to good suspension and the cabin is very quiet, even at speed.
From the outside, the Zafira Tourer is a stylish and attractive proposition and proves that you don't have to sacrifice style for practicality. The interior is similarly stylish and the whole thing feels well put together.
This SRi model offers a fair selection of in-car equipment to buyers with power steering, central locking, stability control, air conditioning, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors and an advanced stereo system with both CD and MP3 compatibility.
Leather seats are option for the interior, priced at £1,050 with climate control available for £305. Bluetooth connectivity and a built-in sat nav can be added for £220 and £855, respectively.
The Zafira Tourer's cabin is very practical and the rear seats can be adjusted and folded down individually. This means that the buyer can choose to sacrifice boot space for more passengers.
With all the seats in place the boot is pretty small at just 65-litres however, this increases to 710-litres with the rearmost seats down. With all the seats folded flat you get a van-like 1860-litres.
There is a question mark over reliability as the Zafira Tourer is a relatively new car. However, it is offered with a 100,000 mile warranty which should put buyers' minds at rest.
The Zafira Tourer should be very safe and scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
At £26,965, the Zafira Tourer SRi 2.0 CDTi 16v (165ps) Auto is fairly expensive but still reasonably priced when compared to its rivals. You should get 47.1mpg on the combined cycle which is pretty fairly average and CO2 emissions of 159g/km means that road tax will be relatively inexpensive under VED band G.
