The Zafira Tourer Exclusiv 2.0 CDTi 16v (165 PS) produces 163 bhp at 4000 rpm and 258 lb-ft low down in the rev range. 0-60mph takes 9.3 seconds and at top speed you'll be doing 127mph. There is little body roll in corners and the steering is responsive although the Ford S-Max offers a more enjoyable driving experience.
The ride can be a bit jiggly, especially at lower speeds, but settles down when the speed increases. The cabin is remarkably comfortable thanks to good sound insulation and very little road, engine and wind noise make it into the cabin.
This Exclusiv model offers a fair selection of in-car equipment to buyers with power steering, central locking, stability control, air conditioning, electric door mirrors, electric front windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors and an advanced stereo system with both CD and MP3 compatibility.
A built-in sat nav system can be added for £855 with Bluetooth connectivity costing £220. An alarm can be added for £250 with alloy wheels available for £360. Whilst this can increase the overall cost of the vehicle it does give drivers far more options than the ES trim level does.
The Zafira Tourer looks great too - a marked improvement over the old Zafira. With elegant lines and a handsome front end, it is one of the best looking cars in its class.
The ace up the Zafira Tourer's sleeve, however, is its interior. The cabin is very practical and the rear seats can be adjusted and folded down individually, allowing the owner to trade passengers for boot space and vice versa.
You get a piffling 65-litres of boot space with all the seats in place however, this increases to 710-litres with the rearmost seats down. With all the seats folded flat you get a cavernous 1860-litres of luggage space.
There is a question mark over reliability as the Zafira Tourer is a relatively new car. However, it is offered with a 100,000 mile warranty which should put buyers' minds at rest.
The Zafira Tourer should be very safe and scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
The Zafira Tourer Exclusiv 2.0 CDTi 16v (165ps) Auto costs £25,615 which is quite a lot of cash for a car like this. Fuel economy is fairly average at a combined 47.1mpg but bear in mind that with seven passengers and luggage on board, this figure will be impossible to achieve. Road tax should be reasonable under tax band G due to carbon emissions of 159g/km.
